We are already half way through January, on our journey into this new year and can I sense Spring is in the air??!
STAYING GROUNDED
As the sun gets slightly stronger and brightens our days it can be a time to fire up our dreams …. The seeds may be planted with ideas and plans for our future. There is hope on the horizon both in the real world and in our hearts ….but if you are feeling rather ambivalent about “springing” into action then perhaps try to pace yourself. A great way to transition from contemplation into action is to allow your action to be guided by your inner feelings and wisdom. Getting a balance between what we feel we should do and what our inner wisdom tells us is right for us at this moment. Our yoga practice can help us to do this by helping us to stay grounded, centred, focussed and calm, enabling us to not get swept away by the speed, activity and rush of the coming growing season energy.
TAKE BABY STEPS
But what do we do if we feel stuck and our dreams have stalled perhaps. This seems to have happened a lot recently to me. My plans stagnate.. seem to have reached a huge hiccup with all that has been going on in the world around us. However, small steps I find are the answer. If you have a personal journal to write, perhaps start with one or two words ……a mountain to climb, take one step and the rest will begin to flow effortlessly. Small baby steps with everything are a great way to start …. No need to walk miles, just to the end of the road and back is enough today … more can follow later.
SPRING CLEAN
Not that I love cleaning, but the ritual of spring cleaning is a wonderful way to transition from an inward focus to taking action. Completing a simple and mundane job such as tidying a desk or cleaning out a cupboard can shift stuck energy, lift your mood and boost your confidence. Spring cleaning brushes away the cobwebs and releases stagnant energy that has collected not only over winter but during these periods of lockdown …..
We can spring clean our selves too … a great way to start a home practice is to commit to a daily routine of 5 or 10 minutes a day. This does not have to be alone .. there are plenty of free online videos available (one of the positive outcomes of Covid) – or you could ask me for one of my recorded yoga sessions. Once you are in this habit you will find that you feel so good that you will want to do more! Forward planning helps us commit to routine .. so perhaps the day before think about when and what you will practice and factor it into your next day. Failing to plan can be planning to fail! Or perhaps if you feel confident , just step on the mat and let your inner wisdom guide you! You never know if you plant the seeds of a personal yoga practice, very soon your yoga garden will be in full bloom!!
