This is not something I do very often, however this cause is very close to my heart. Ten years ago, on 25th November 2010, Alexandra, the daughter of my first husband, Rob, was taken from us at the tender age of 16 after a long battle with cancer. She is the treasured and so sadly missed half sister of my children, Kate and Oliver, and much loved by us all as a fun loving, caring wise-beyond-her-years beautiful soul.
During her short life Alexandra always cared tremendously for children who did not have what she was so lucky to have: food, shelter, clothes and opportunity …….. so 10 years ago her parents set up a charity The Alexandra Wylie Tower Foundation … to do just that – provide for the less fortunate children of London who went without. Since the start of lockdown this giving has spread to providing over 16,000 food parcels ….. and the charity is in dire need of support.
Here is a description from Lindsey … Alexandras’ tirelessly working mother
“Next month, on the 25th of November, it will be 10 years since Alexandra died on Thanksgiving Day 2010. The Alexandra Wylie Tower Foundation (AWTF) continues to try to represent her lovely energy by helping local families and children who are in crisis. We have had much to be thankful for and are incredibly grateful for all the wonderful support that so many people have given. I hope she would have been very proud of us.
Our foodbank, which was feeding a maximum of 50-75 households a week pre-covid, is now providing food for over 300 households plus delivering parcels to another 80 homes. As the crisis continues, support from local supermarkets and the council is dwindling while the food bank queue continues to grow”.
Allie believed that no child (or adult) should ever go to bed hungry. We would like to mark this anniversary, by highlighting the dire straits in which many individuals and families find themselves. To enable AWTF to continue to run the food bank over the next 6/12 months, a team of volunteers are staging an online auction which will run from 27th November to 13th December 2020.
And my daughter Kate writes:
“ It is 10 years since my gorgeous little sister died of cancer and as many of you know we have the AWTF in her honour where my parents work incredibly hard to feed now 1000s of people a day at a food bank in North London.
Participation in the online auction or financial donations will be so gratefully received – thank you so much! Xxx”
Finally, as part of my contribution I will donate the funds from all yoga classes this week to the charity plus offer for auction, firstly, an online private Yoga Therapy Session for 2 hours (to include breathwork, yoga postures and deep guided meditative relaxation) and secondly, a personalised Yoga Class for 6.
I would also ask that any of you that have attended my Free Breath Workshops might offer a small donation to go to support the Food Banks and work done by the Alexandra Wylie Tower Foundation ….
Please make payments to Judith Davis 20-97-01 Acc 33227421 and they will be put to such good use.
If any of you are interested in the online auction I will be emailing information about this later …..
Thank you all, in anticipation… and gratitude
Alexandra will be smiling down on us all …
Thank you for reading this and for any help that you might be able to offer ….
With the warmest of wishes during these challenging times ….
